It's taken us forever to try Roleee but we are glad we did. They have a dedicated vegan menu with a number of good options that can be mixed and matched. You can order a roll, salad bowl, rice bowl or roti crunch, with curry and chutney of your choice. There are some other optional add-ons. Personally, I liked the roti crunch because it's a bit like having an oversized samosa for dinner.
We noted that they are having all-you-can-eat vegan feasts on the weekends. We're looking forward to trying that soon.

Binny's Kathitto specialises in Indian street food. Here you can get vegan Dosa, or choose from a good selection of other items marked on the menu. Pictured here are the lentil pancakes (uttapam) and samosa. Highly satisfactory!

Sweet Bones Bakery Cafe, Braddon

Although we have blogged Sweet Bones before, the menu has evolved much since then and we thought it was worth a revisit to talk about two of our favourite dishes. The Italian tempeh sandwich comes with olive bread, salad, pickles and tasty flavoured tempeh. If you haven't tried tempeh before, we encourage you to give it a go, as the Sweet Bones people have really excelled on this one.

The nachos mountain is a great choice when you have a big hunger to fill. It is packed with interesting flavours -- chillies, olives, corn and beans with vegan sour cream & cheeses, on a large bed of corn chips. The chips are the Mission brand and are free of palm oil.

Sweet Bones cafe has moved to new premises. The entrance is now on Elouera St, close to the roundabout on Lonsdale. They now have a printed menu, which is a great improvement over the blackboard, and it has a number of new items that we can't wait to try.

Sweet Bones Bakery Cafe, Braddon

Sweet Bones cafe opened recently inside the new Lonsdale St Traders centre. This building used to be a tyre centre and it retains some of the industrial feel. The cafe can be found towards the back, next to the bicycle store. Recycled seating at the front and rear provides a nice ambience.

The cafe sells a number of breakfast and lunch items, as well as sweet treats and coffee. The vegan sweets are pretty amazing and would be a revelation for anyone who thinks that a diet without animal products would be lacking in sensory delight. Do not miss the raw vegan cheesecakes.

We enquired about the lunch items and they are all vegan too. The tempeh focaccia (pictured below) was super tasty and you can tell that there has been some careful thought about the flavours in it. This is also evident in the other dishes we have tried. This places Sweet Bones a long way above the average Canberra cafe. It appears that the menu board changes from day to day, so you can find something new on each visit.

When ordering coffee though, you should ask for the soy milk, otherwise you might end up with something you didn't expect. Mercifully, they don't charge extra for soy. And that means there's no excuse for anyone to keep drinking the other stuff.
